The Washington Nationals and the Children’s Inn at NIH Team-up to Strike Out Serious Illness

The Washington Nationals are off to a great start this season and one of the reasons for their success is due to the strength of their pitching.听 The Nats number-one ranked hurlers lead the majors with 144 strikeouts.听 Now why is the number 144 so important?听 It’s because each time a Washington National鈥檚 pitcher throws a strikeout during a home or away game, Washington Area Toyota Dealers will donate $37 to . So far this year Toyota has donated $5,328 to The Inn and that number will only rise like one of Stephen Strasburg’s fastballs.

The K鈥檚 for Kids program benefits The Children鈥檚 Inn, a nonprofit 鈥減lace like home鈥 where families stay together while children participate in groundbreaking medical research at NIH, the world鈥檚 premier biomedical research center.

鈥淭his is a win for The Inn; we are very grateful to the Washington Area Toyota Dealers,鈥 said CEO Kathy L. Russell.

鈥淣ats games are a terrific outing for our families, who need a break from treatment and the tremendous strain of dealing with serious illness,鈥 Russell said. 鈥淲hat better way than to see this year鈥檚 fastest-pitching starting lineup scoring for The Inn?鈥

The K鈥檚 for Kids Program is the perfect opportunity to promote healthy kids and baseball, said Tammy Darvish of the Washington Area Toyota Dealers Association. Toyota strives to be an active, positive influence in the DC community, and we are very pleased to have sparked a new relationship with The Children鈥檚 Inn at NIH. We are counting on the Nats鈥 pitchers to strike out a record number of batters with this great incentive.
