Investing in Healthy Child Development and Prevention of Child Abuse
All children deserve great childhoods because our children are our future.
The fact is, when we invest in healthy child development, we are investing in community and economic development. Unfortunately, children are sometimes exposed to extreme and sustained stress like child abuse and neglect, which can undermine a child’s development.
Which is why Prevent Child Abuse ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ has worked for over 40 years to ensure the healthy development of children and the prevention of child abuse and neglect nationwide.
Child abuse and neglect takes many forms; abuse can be physical, emotional or sexual and various types of neglect may include physical, emotional or medical.
In order to prevent child abuse and neglect from ever occurring, we have continually focused on developing innovative programming that lays the foundation for children’s later growth and development and reduces the possibility of more serious problems from occurring later on.
For example, the Healthy Families ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ program is a voluntary home visitation program, which focuses on all expectant and new parents by giving them the opportunity to receive education and support they need at the time their baby is born.
Healthy Families ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ reaches over 95,000 families each year and has expanded to over 600 sites!
Prevent Child Abuse ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ also works with a network of 50 state chapters in order to address healthy child development and child abuse and neglect prevention at the community level.Ìý
We all play a role in prevention!Ìý
You can play your role by:
- for a plan for children
- at a Prevent Child Abuse ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ chapter or other children- and family-service organization

- Workplace Giving
Of every dollar received, 87 cents goes directly to current programs and/or the development and implementation of new prevention programs, such as , , a bullying prevention technical assistance center and a child sexual abuse prevention technical .
No single organization has worked harder or longer to create innovative programs to ensure that our nation’s children can grow in safe environments without the fear of abuse and neglect.
Our thanks toÌýPrevent Child Abuse ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ for sharing the work they’re doing around healthy child development and prevention of child abuse and neglect.
