Iron Hill and CureSearch’s 11-year Partnership Results in Nearly $200k for Children’s Cancer Research
听is a national non-profit foundation听飞丑辞蝉别听尘颈蝉蝉颈辞苍听is to end childhood cancer by driving targeted and innovative research with measurable results in an accelerated time frame. One of the ways CureSearch is working to accomplish this mission is through partnerships with businesses like .听We recently interviewed CureSearch about this partnership. 听Below is a Q&A from that conversation:
What Kind of Partnership do You Have with Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurants?
The founders of Iron Hill Restaurant and Brewery, home brewers Kevin Finn and Mark Edelson, and restauranteur Kevin Davies, are intimately aware of the impact of childhood cancer as Mark鈥檚 wife, Maureen, is a Pediatric Oncologist practicing at Nemours/Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware.听 She did her fellowship work at Children鈥檚 National Medical Center in Washington, DC, under Dr. Greg Reaman, inaugural Chairman of the Children鈥檚 Oncology Group. Recognizing the importance of children鈥檚 cancer research, Edelson and his co-founders were inspired to begin supporting CureSearch for Children鈥檚 Cancer.
In 2004, as part of the on-going fight against cancer, Iron Hill developed a signature dessert, The Double Chocolate Hill.听听The dessert boasts moist chocolate cake with a warm peanut butter center, covered in a creamy chocolate ganache and accompanied by a scoop of vanilla ice cream. 听Iron Hill committed to donate $0.75 from the sale of each Double Chocolate Hill dessert听to CureSearch. 听
What Do You Hope to Accomplish Through This Partnership and What Have Been the Results so Far?
鈥淥ur goal in supporting a national charity is to use the success of our business to give back in the most meaningful way possible. When looking for a charity, it is important that it has wide impact on all of the communities we serve and that it maximizes the use of the funds towards direct impact, not administration and overhead. We have found CureSearch to be a great partner to meet these goals.鈥 听Mark Edelson, Co-Founder, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant
Every day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. The dessert promotion between Iron Hill Brewery and CureSearch raises public awareness that cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among children. It also provides much needed funds to drive innovative research to end children鈥檚 cancer.
This year, 2015, marks 11 years of support from听Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant and its 11 locations (soon to be 12) across the mid-Atlantic. All听Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurants听participate in this听unique dessert fundraiser for听CureSearch for Children鈥檚 Cancer. 听Since the partnership began in 2004, Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurants has donated close to $200,000 to support CureSearch for Children鈥檚 Cancer. The donations are used to fund clinical trials that seek to discover new cancer cures and save children鈥檚 lives.
