Prevention is a Year-Round Effort

By Emily White,听Advocacy听Manager听for听

Colorectal cancer isn鈥檛 a phrase that rolls off the tongue easily. It鈥檚 not a 鈥渟exy鈥 cancer that people like talking about. In fact, I was uncomfortable with the phrase myself for my first few weeks on the job at Fight Colorectal Cancer. I distinctly remember thinking, 鈥淔ight Colo鈥HAT?!鈥 when listening to a voicemail from our (now) President Anjee Davis asking me to meet her for an interview. Shortly after signing my job contract I asked Anjee if she ever feels strange saying the word 鈥榬ectal鈥 and with a quizzical look, she answered, 鈥淲hy should I?鈥

The feelings that drove my hesitation to say where I worked is the problem with colorectal cancer and why I feel so many aren鈥檛 screened.
