Yearlong Journey Leads Dog to Happy Home
叠测听
Someone took 8-week-old Lucky and his littermates for a ride on a flatbed truck. Lucky鈥檚 tiny paws couldn鈥檛 grip the truck鈥檚 flatbed floor, so he slid off the truck and onto the road. The puppy broke his leg that day.
Lucky and his littermates were immediately turned into the听听(BCAC) in Shelbyville, Tenn. His puppy siblings were adopted quickly, but Lucky needed surgery to fix his back right leg.
Normally, injured dogs are euthanized at the county shelter because taxpayer dollars are not allocated for sick and injured pets. But BCAC didn鈥檛 let that hold them back. They sent out email pleas to their supporters and help poured in.
鈥淲e raised $300 in just a few days,鈥 says Karen Clark, office manager at BCAC. 鈥淲e got Lucky into surgery that week.鈥
Lucky needs help finding a home
Lucky spent the next several months in foster care. By the time he returned to the shelter, he was no longer an 8-week-old puppy with adorable adoption appeal. Now he was a lanky 35-pound dog.
After being overlooked by potential adopters for several months, BCAC felt Lucky needed new surroundings to find his forever home. They boarded him on a PetSmart Charities庐 Rescue Waggin鈥櫬 vehicle headed for the听(HSHV) in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Unlucky delay in moving to forever home
Bill and Katie Parker noticed Lucky on the HSHV adoption floor a few days later. 鈥淥ne of our dogs had recently died and we wanted another companion for our 8-year-old dog Ella,鈥 said Bill. 鈥淟ucky came across as a very friendly dog.鈥
